The UPI Provider Organization module allows finer grain control over access to protected information for People in services (referred to as People or Persons).  That is, employees and People in services will need to be entered into the company's organization structure.  Employees will only have access to People who are in their same organizational groups.  The intent of the provider organization is two fold:

1. Meeting the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements protecting the privacy of individuals.  In a nutshell, employees should only have access to Personal information on a need to know basis.

2. Large and medium sized companies have reported difficulty ensuring the messages (notification emails) from UPI are delivered to the correct staff members.

Once the organization structure is implemented, users will only have access to the People who have been assigned to their groups.  All Person specific and company reports (1056, financial expenditures, etc.) will be available to employees who have been granted access to the Person based on the organizational structure.

The organization module also includes a new customizable “messaging/email” function.  Each company user of UPI will have customizable settings for which email notifications they would like to receive.  The available emails will be limited based on the roles assigned to a specific user.
