Ongoing Unit Decrease

Definition:

If the person needs less units of an existing Ongoing service in the Person Centered Support Plan (PCSP), then it means the total number of units prescribed for the service will permanently decrease.  In this circumstance where only the units are decreasing, the service’s rate must remain unchanged.

Procedure:

A permanent decrease in the units for a service does not have to be justified by criteria in the Request for Services.  Rather, the decrease can be implemented directly on the budget screen inside the request.

In order to implement the reduction, the worker must respond to three questions that dynamically and automatically build the budget line for the “Ongoing Unit Decrease”.  Each one contributes information toward a holistic view regarding how much of the rate increase will impact the person’s needs.

Explanation:

The following three questions must be completed in order to submit the Request for the “Ongoing Unit Decrease”.  The rate for the service is dynamically generated from the selected PCSP budget line.  Consequently, the worker is not required to enter the value.

What date will the decrease start?

This question asks for the date the decrease in units will begin for the service.  The date cannot be arbitrary.  Rather, it must accurately reflect the expected date the provider will begin delivering the lower number of units.  If the date is unknown, then the worker should select the first day of the month in which the provider is expected to begin delivering the lower number of units.

How many units will be permanently decreased in the Active plan?

This question asks for the exact number of units by which the service will be decreased in the Active PCSP.  The number of units cannot be arbitrary.  If the reduced units are not accurate, then the Plan Max may provide insufficient funds to cover the person’s need in the Active PCSP.

How many units will be permanently decreased in the next plan cycle?

This question asks for the total number of units that will be permanently removed from the service in the next plan cycle.  If the additional units are not accurate, then the Plan Max may provide insufficient funds to cover the person’s need.
